Coinbase Brings Regulated Crypto Derivatives to Canadian Traders
Coinbase has opened regulated crypto derivatives to Canadian traders through its Coinbase Financial Markets (CFM) platform. The move allows eligible investors in Canada to access CFTC-registered derivative contracts for the first time.
The rollout, which began on September 2, offers a domestic venue for crypto futures trading. Before now, Canadians wanting exposure to crypto-derivative products often turned to offshore or unregulated venues.
Coinbase stated that it is the first major crypto-native platform to offer direct native crypto futures in Canada. Eligible traders will get access to 23 perpetual and dated futures covering Bitcoin, Ether, and Solana, as well as five commodity contracts and index products such as COIN50.
The nano-sized contracts have a leverage of up to 10 times, with the positions able to be opened long or short. For a limited window, Coinbase is charging launch pricing of 0.02% per trade plus a flat 11 cents per contract.
