Coinbase Brings Retail Trading for ETHGas Governance Token
Coinbase has announced that it will start offering spot trading for ETHGas (GWEI) on February 24, 2026. This move comes after Coinbase added GWEI to its listing roadmap on February 11, and follows the token's existing availability on Coinbase Futures since the same date.
ETHGas is an Ethereum infrastructure protocol launched in 2025 that introduces a forward market for Ethereum blockspace. It allows validators, builders, and searchers to buy and sell block inclusion rights ahead of time, rather than competing in real-time spot auctions at block production.
GWEI is the governance token of the ETHGas protocol, an ERC-20 token deployed on Ethereum that holders can stake to receive veGWEI, a non-transferable token granting voting power over protocol parameters and upgrades. The token has a fixed maximum supply of 10 billion, with approximately 1.75 billion currently circulating.
The Coinbase spot listing expands retail access to GWEI, which has already seen significant derivatives activity. The token's price near $0.030 gives it a market cap of around $53 million, with early investors holding an average cost basis of roughly $0.0063.
