Coinbase Brings Tokenized Stocks to Base DeFi Ecosystem
Coinbase has launched tokenized stocks on Base, allowing users to hold shares of major US companies in their DeFi ecosystem. The products are issued by Coinbase and backed one for one by underlying shares held with regulated custodian Alpaca.
The initial assets include tokenized shares of Apple, Nvidia, Meta, and Alphabet, which can be traded around the clock through onchain markets. Holders have a direct beneficial claim on the corresponding shares and can hold them directly in self-custody wallets.
Base said additional Coinbase tokenized stocks will be added over the coming weeks, expanding the network's push to bring traditional financial markets onchain. The launch also connects the assets with several DeFi protocols, including Aerodrome for liquidity and Aave for lending.
