Coinbase CEO Backs CLARITY Act to Prevent Another FTX Collapse

Share

Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong has thrown his weight behind the CLARITY Act, a proposed US crypto regulation bill aimed at preventing another FTX-style collapse.

The bill would define which digital assets are securities and which are commodities, providing much-needed regulatory clarity for exchanges, custodians, and stablecoin issuers.

Armstrong's endorsement comes as the industry grapples with the fallout from FTX's collapse in November 2022, which exposed weaknesses in crypto governance, including commingling of customer funds, lack of transparent audits, and inadequate risk controls.

The CLARITY Act would mandate stricter reporting, reserve requirements, and segregation of customer assets, making such failures far less likely.
