Coinbase CEO Says Crypto Momentum Continues Despite CLARITY Act Delay
Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong expressed his views on the current state of cryptocurrency despite the delay in the CLARITY Act. He emphasized that crypto adoption continues to grow, pointing to increasing stablecoin use and expanding digital asset markets.
Armstrong noted that while the Senate's failure to advance the CLARITY Act this week was disappointing, regulators are providing more clarity as companies expand their presence in the sector. The bill aims to establish a federal framework for digital assets, dividing oversight between the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.
The latest Senate draft includes a CFTC-led framework for digital commodities, which would create registration categories for exchanges, brokers, dealers, and advisers. It also addresses stablecoins, restricting interest or yield payments for holding these assets, but permitting activity-based rewards connected to payments, remittances, liquidity provision, staking, and loyalty programs.
Armstrong stated that clear legislation could support investment, innovation, and employment while providing consumers with stronger protections. He noted that Congress still has an important role in establishing federal market structure rules.
