Coinbase Cleared for Takeoff Amid Ongoing Crypto Regulation Uncertainty
Despite the recent Senate procedural vote that failed to pass the CLARITY Act, U.S. cryptocurrency regulation remains uncertain. However, a significant development has taken place in the derivatives market as Coinbase Clearing received approval from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) to operate as a regulated derivatives clearing organization.
This move is part of Coinbase's efforts to separate its exchange business, brokerage business, and clearing business through a structure that allows for certain futures contracts to be listed on Coinbase Derivatives. The CFTC approval also designates Coinbase Financial Markets as the futures commission merchant (FCM) responsible for processing orders from customers and receiving customer funds.
As the U.S. digital-asset market continues to evolve, several altcoins are being watched closely by investors and traders. These include Avalanche (AVAX), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), Cardano (ADA), Chainlink (LINK), and Hedera (HBAR). Each of these assets has a unique role in the blockchain ecosystem and remains relevant despite the ongoing regulatory debate.
