Coinbase Clearinghouse Gets CFTC Nod, Enabling USDC-Based Derivatives
Coinbase Clearing LLC has received CFTC registration as a Derivatives Clearing Organisation, making it the first USDC-native clearinghouse in the United States. This marks a significant milestone for Coinbase's full-stack, CFTC-regulated derivatives platform.
The new clearinghouse will use USDC as collateral with 24/7 settlement, designed to support always-on regulated derivatives markets. It sits at the center of Coinbase's infrastructure, handling clearing and settlement natively in USDC with 24/7 availability.
Coinbase Financial Markets, Inc. serves as the Futures Commission Merchant, while Coinbase Derivatives, LLC operates as the Designated Contract Market. With this approval, Coinbase can create and settle fully collateralized contracts directly without routing through third-party infrastructure.
