Coinbase Completes Regulated Derivatives Stack with DCO Approval

Coinbase has completed its regulated derivatives infrastructure after receiving approval from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) to register Coinbase Clearing LLC as a derivatives clearing organization (DCO).

This move allows Coinbase to list, broker, and clear fully collateralized products in-house, effectively completing its full stack of regulated derivatives infrastructure.

Coinbase's clearinghouse, which is USDC-native, can now clear only fully-collateralized futures, options on futures, and swaps. It cannot clear leveraged products through Coinbase Clearing, which will still go through outside clearing partners.

In a statement, Coinbase said that this development means 'faster product development, more efficient operations, and the flexibility to bring new regulated products to market over time.'
