Coinbase Creates Baseball Prediction Market
A prediction market has been created on Coinbase for the outcome of a hypothetical baseball game between the Houston and Philadelphia teams. The market, which will close by September 10, 2026, allows users to buy 'Yes' contracts if they think one team will win or 'No' contracts if they think the other team will win.
The price of each contract reflects the market's odds, with a $0.65 price indicating a 65% chance of an event happening. If a user buys a 'Yes' contract and the event occurs, they earn $1 minus what they paid (minus fees). For example, if someone buys 10 'Yes' contracts at $0.40 each, they would pay a total of $4.00. If the event happens, each contract pays out $1.00, resulting in a payout of $10.00 and a profit of $6.00 (minus fees).
The market is offered by Coinbase Financial Markets, a registered futures commission merchant with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission and a Member of the National Futures Association. Trading prediction contracts involves substantial risk and may result in the loss of your entire investment.
