Coinbase CTO Gets Candid Feedback from AI Agent: 'The Best Feedback I'm Getting'

Coinbase CTO Rob Witoff has been getting candid feedback from an unlikely source: AI agent Coinbase Coach. The tool, which is currently in beta, provides employees with private feedback based on interactions with people throughout the company.

Witoff told Business Insider that he's receiving 'the best feedback' of his career from the AI agent. The company rolled out a beta version of Coinbase Coach in June, after linking its internal AI models to company data sources.

The tool can review transcripts, Slack interactions, and activity across other internal tools to provide weekly feedback. Employees can opt-in for the tool while it's in beta. The reports aren't used in performance reviews or available to managers, Witoff said.

Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong has also been using the AI assistant through 'reverse prompting.' He asks the model what he should do based on the data it's gathered throughout the company, rather than giving it a task.
