Coinbase Embeds Stablecoins in Community Banks, Targets 4,000-Plus Institutions
Coinbase is making moves to bring stablecoins into community banks and credit unions. The exchange announced a partnership with Stablecore, which allows it to plug into existing core banking providers like Q2 and Jack Henry. This bypasses the lengthy process of convincing legacy institutions to overhaul their technology stacks.
The move marks Coinbase's second major distribution play in September, following an announcement six days prior that brought stablecoin payments and real-time funding to another 1,000-plus institutions through a partnership with Moov.
Alec Lovett of Coinbase said community banks and credit unions shouldn't have to choose between staying local and staying current. Alex Treece, the architect behind Stablecore, echoed this sentiment, saying banks shouldn't have to migrate to new technology platforms just to support digital assets for their clients.
