Coinbase Enters Oil Market with Perpetual Futures Contracts

Share

Coinbase has launched perpetual futures contracts for WTI and Brent crude oil, allowing eligible non-US traders to speculate on crude oil prices through a crypto-native contract structure.

The products trade around the clock, seven days a week, with no expiry date, unlike traditional oil futures. This means traders can hold a position indefinitely, paying or receiving funding fees over time instead of closing out and reopening a new contract each month.

Access is limited to eligible non-US traders, mirroring how crypto exchanges have handled other leveraged derivatives products under current U.S. rules. This launch pushes Coinbase deeper into a derivatives market that has become increasingly crowded and political.
