Coinbase Expands Crypto Derivatives Trading to Canadian Market
Coinbase has launched regulated crypto derivatives trading in Canada, expanding its offerings under a tightening regulatory framework. The platform is now offering perpetual and dated futures tied to Bitcoin, Ether, Solana, and other assets.
The new derivatives are available through Coinbase Financial Markets, a futures commission merchant registered with the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission. This marks the first major crypto-native platform to offer direct native crypto futures in Canada.
Eligible clients can access the new offerings, which include 23 crypto perpetual and dated futures, five commodity futures, and the Coinbase 50 Index. Access is restricted to clients with at least $5 million in net financial assets or registered investment advisers and dealers.
The contracts use nano-sized positions and offer leverage of up to 10x. This move comes as other U.S. trading platforms also expand their crypto presence in Canada, including Webull's recent launch using Coinbase infrastructure for trading and custody.
