Coinbase HR Chief Exits Amid Ongoing Restructuring
Coinbase is undergoing another leadership change as Lawrence Brock, the company's Chief People Officer, steps down on August 17. He will remain an adviser until November 30 and receive $182,500 in compensation during that time. The exit marks the latest development in Coinbase's restructuring efforts, which have included a major workforce reduction of around 700 positions, roughly 14% of its total employees.
The layoffs, announced in May, were aimed at lowering operating costs while reshaping the business for what Chief Executive Brian Armstrong described as the 'AI era'. Brock oversaw recruiting, compensation, and employee benefits during his tenure at Coinbase. He also led the people strategy behind the company's transformation, but will leave before investors get their first detailed look at how the restructuring affected the company's financial performance.
The separation agreement for Brock allows one portion of his equity awards to continue vesting until November 20, while the remaining unvested stock will be cancelled. The exit comes during a broader leadership reshuffle at Coinbase, with several other executives having left or transitioned into new roles in recent weeks.
