Coinbase Institutional Sees $171M Bitcoin Transfer from Unknown Wallet
A significant Bitcoin transfer has taken place through Coinbase Institutional, where 2,269 BTC, worth over $171 million, was moved from an unknown wallet. This transaction, detected by blockchain tracking service Whale Alert, has caught the attention of market watchers seeking to understand the actions of major players in the Bitcoin space.
This transfer is not an isolated event; Coinbase Institutional has been receiving large batches of Bitcoin throughout 2026. In June, approximately 2,537 BTC flowed into the platform, followed by a larger batch of 2,874 BTC in July and another 2,024 BTC in early September. Around September 15, around $65 million worth of Bitcoin was deposited.
Coinbase Institutional serves as a custody and trading venue for heavyweight clients such as hedge funds, asset managers, corporate treasuries, and other entities requiring regulated infrastructure to handle large positions. When Bitcoin moves to this destination, it typically signals preparation for trading or a shift in custodial arrangements.
