Coinbase Integrates Deribit to Create Global Crypto Trading Powerhouse
Coinbase has completed the integration of Deribit, creating the Coinbase Global Exchange. This move allows traders to access liquidity holding over $30 billion in Bitcoin options open interest and a trading volume exceeding $1 trillion last year. For the first time, US and international derivatives markets are connected into a single liquidity pool.
The platform will soon offer Deribit-powered options, spot margin, and unified portfolios, providing institutional-grade capabilities such as cross-portfolio risk modeling and single-step options execution. The integration also includes a streamlined retail onboarding flow, a new matching engine, and improved fee tiers for active traders.
In May 2026, the CFTC issued guidance allowing Coinbase Financial Markets (CFM) to be the first US-regulated Futures Commission Merchant connecting US clients to global crypto derivatives liquidity. This regulatory framework enables US institutions to access Deribit's full options suite and perpetual futures through Coinbase Prime.
Individual traders will no longer need VPNs to execute complex strategies across multiple exchanges. The Coinbase experience now features a unified account with cross-portfolio margin, reducing the collateral required to maintain open trades. Additionally, the platform includes a strategy builder for multi-leg orders and a payoff diagram to visualize expected profits and breakeven points.
