Coinbase Joins Hyperliquid in Push for US Equity Perp Regulations
Coinbase has requested U.S regulators to treat equity perpetual futures (equity perps) as 'security futures'.
This move is part of a broader effort by the exchange to establish clear and harmonized regulations for these products in the US.
The CFTC recently approved crypto perps for Kalshi and Coinbase, but there is no similar framework for equity perps.
RWAs (real-world asset tokenization) allow traders and investors to take leveraged positions on tokenized stocks and ETFs, and have grown 4X this year with Open Interest rising from $1B in Q1 to over $4.5B as of Q3.
Hyperliquid's advocacy arm, the Hyperliquid Policy Center (HPC), has also made a similar plea to U.S regulators.
