Coinbase has launched a new prediction market for the upcoming NFL game between the San Francisco 49ers and the Seattle Seahawks. Users can trade contracts on the outcome of this matchup, with each contract paying out $1 if the predicted event occurs and $0 if it does not. The current price of the contracts reflects the market’s odds, allowing traders to buy “Yes” if they believe the event will happen or “No” if they think it will not.
The market will close and expire when the outcome of the game is determined. If the event has not concluded by the deadline, the market will automatically close by October 13, 2026, at 8:25 PM GMT+0. Coinbase has also outlined strict trading prohibitions to ensure fairness, including restrictions for current players, coaches, staff, paid employees of the league, team owners, and individuals with material, non-public information.
To participate in the prediction market, users need a Coinbase account and must complete onboarding to Coinbase Financial Markets (CFM). This process includes identity verification and basic income/net worth details. Once approved, traders can use the cash (USD and USDC) in their main Coinbase account to fund their positions. Payouts are made after settlement, which may be delayed on U.S. bank holidays, weekends, or outside banking hours.
Coinbase emphasizes that prediction markets involve substantial risk and may result in the loss of the entire investment.
