Coinbase Launches Prediction Market for Cardinals vs Giants Game
Coinbase has introduced a new prediction market centered around the outcome of the ARI Cardinals vs. NY Giants game. This market allows users to trade contracts on the event, with each contract paying out $1 if the specified outcome occurs and $0 if it does not. The price of the contract reflects the market's odds, with users able to buy “Yes” if they believe the event will happen or “No” if they think it will not.
The market has attracted significant interest, with a total interest of $7,299,153.86 and a total contract value of $17 million. It is set to expire on October 4, 2026, or earlier if the outcome is determined before then. The market follows strict trading prohibitions to ensure fairness, including restrictions on current players, coaches, staff, and other affiliated individuals.
To participate, users need a Coinbase account and must complete onboarding with Coinbase Financial Markets (CFM), which includes identity verification and basic financial details. Once approved, users can fund their accounts and start trading using USD or USDC. Settlement occurs when the event result is confirmed, with payouts made to traders based on the outcome.
Coinbase emphasizes that prediction markets involve substantial risk and are not a recommendation to buy or sell any particular asset. The platform is regulated by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission and operates under clear rules to ensure transparency and fairness.
