Coinbase Launches Prediction Market for Lazarenko vs Cembranos Match
Coinbase has introduced a new prediction market focused on the outcome of the match between Lazarenko and Cembranos. This market allows users to trade contracts predicting the result of the event, with a total interest of $1,571,878.80 and a total trading volume of $3 million. The market is set to expire on October 6, 2026, or when the event concludes, whichever comes first.
Trading in this market is subject to several restrictions. Individuals directly involved in the event, such as current players, coaches, and staff, as well as their immediate family members, are prohibited from trading. Additionally, anyone with access to material, non-public information about the event is barred from participating. These rules aim to ensure fair and transparent trading conditions.
Prediction markets on Coinbase operate on a simple principle: users buy 'Yes' contracts if they believe the event will happen and 'No' contracts if they think it will not. Each contract costs between $0 and $1, with the price reflecting the market's odds. If the event occurs, 'Yes' contracts pay out $1 each, minus the purchase price and any fees. Conversely, 'No' contracts pay out $1 each if the event does not happen.
Coinbase emphasizes that prediction markets involve substantial risk and are not suitable for all investors. The platform offers these markets through Coinbase Financial Markets, a registered futures commission merchant with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. Users must complete identity verification and provide basic income/net worth details to participate.
