Coinbase Launches Prediction Market for Milwaukee vs. Oklahoma City NBA Game
Coinbase has launched a new prediction market centered around the outcome of the first half of the NBA game between the Milwaukee Bucks and the Oklahoma City Thunder. The market allows users to trade contracts predicting whether Milwaukee or Oklahoma City will win the first half, with an expiry date set for October 10, 2026.
The market operates on a simple principle: contracts pay out $1 if the predicted event occurs and $0 if it does not. The current price reflects the market’s odds, with a price of $0.65 indicating a 65% chance of the event happening. Users can buy 'Yes' if they believe the event will occur or 'No' if they think it will not.
To participate, users need a Coinbase account and must complete onboarding with Coinbase Financial Markets (CFM), which includes identity verification and basic income/net worth details. Once approved, users can fund their accounts and start trading using cash (USD and USDC) from their main Coinbase account.
The market follows strict rules to ensure fairness and transparency. Trading is prohibited for current players, coaches, staff, paid employees of the league, team owners, and anyone with material, non-public information. Settlement is determined by an independent, regulated exchange using a stated 'source of truth,' such as official data or trusted news.
