Coinbase has launched a new prediction market allowing users to trade contracts on the outcome of the South Carolina vs. Florida event. The market operates on a straightforward principle: each contract pays $1 if the predicted event happens and $0 if it does not. The current price reflects the market’s odds, such as $0.65 indicating a 65% chance of the event occurring. Users can buy "Yes" if they believe the event will happen or "No" if they think it will not.
To participate, users need a Coinbase account and must complete onboarding with Coinbase Financial Markets (CFM), which includes identity verification and basic financial details. Once approved, users can fund their accounts and start trading using USD or USDC from their main Coinbase account. The market will close and expire when the outcome is determined or by October 12, 2026, at 5:00 PM GMT+0, whichever comes first.
Coinbase emphasizes that prediction markets involve substantial risk and may result in the loss of the entire investment. The platform is regulated by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission and is a member of the National Futures Association. Trading is paused during a weekly maintenance window from 3:00-5:00 AM ET every Thursday.
Users should be aware of trading prohibitions, including restrictions on current players, coaches, staff, paid employees, owners, and their immediate family members. Additionally, persons with material, non-public information or those employed by specific agencies are not permitted to trade on the contract.
