Coinbase Launches Saitoh vs. Takahashi Prediction Market with $2.6M in Trades
Coinbase has launched a new prediction market payout on its platform, inviting users to predict the outcome of a match between Saitoh and Takahashi. The market, which expires on October 19, 2026, has already generated significant interest, with a total volume of $2.6 million and a 24-hour trading volume of $1,127,932.82. The market’s interest stands at $1,227,627.92, reflecting the high engagement of traders.
The prediction market allows users to buy contracts that pay out $1 if the event happens and $0 if it does not. The price of the contract reflects the market’s odds. For example, a price of $0.65 indicates a 65% chance of the event occurring. Users can trade 'Yes' if they believe the event will happen or 'No' if they think it will not. If they are correct, they earn $1 per contract minus what they paid, minus any fees.
To participate, users need a Coinbase account and must complete onboarding to Coinbase Financial Markets (CFM), which includes identity verification and basic income/net worth details. Once approved, users can fund their accounts and start trading using cash (USD and USDC) from their main Coinbase account. The platform ensures that trading is regulated and transparent, with clear rules and settlement policies based on the result of the event.
Coinbase emphasizes that prediction markets involve substantial risk and may result in the loss of the entire investment. The platform is not responsible for any errors or delays in content and does not provide investment advice. Users are advised to understand the product and assess its appropriateness for their financial situation before trading.
