Coinbase Opens IPO Access for Retail Investors
Coinbase has expanded its offerings beyond cryptocurrency by allowing eligible U.S. retail customers to request initial public offering (IPO) allocations through its app.
The first test of this new service is Oura, a smart-ring company that plans to list on the Nasdaq under the ticker OURA.
Customers can request shares at the IPO offer price before public-market trading begins, giving them an opportunity to participate in the offering at the IPO stage.
The allocation system is designed to prioritize investors who intend to hold their shares longer term, and selling IPO shares within the first 30 days may result in a 60-day ban from participating in future IPOs on Coinbase.
