Coinbase Ousted from UK Finance Membership Amid Crypto Industry-Bank Rift
Crypto exchange Coinbase has had its membership revoked by UK Finance, a leading financial services industry organization in the United Kingdom. The decision comes as tensions between the crypto industry and traditional banks deepen on issues such as stablecoins and access to banking services.
UK Finance claims that it reviewed Coinbase's membership framework and determined that the exchange did not meet its criteria. However, this may be a precursor to further regulatory scrutiny of the crypto industry in the UK, particularly with regards to stablecoin rewards.
The crypto industry has been increasingly vocal on regulatory issues, including stablecoins, which have emerged as a contentious topic in U.S. policy discussions. The CLARITY Act, aimed at establishing a clearer regulatory framework for digital assets, has stalled due to the clash of interests between banks and crypto firms.
