Coinbase Prediction Market Sets Bitcoin Price Target for 2026
Coinbase has introduced a prediction market targeting the price of Bitcoin (BTC) at $85,490.48 by October 6, 2026. The market, which closed recently, saw significant interest with a total trading volume of $5.7 million and $2.4 million in interest.
Prediction markets allow users to trade contracts on future events, with each contract paying $1 if the event occurs and $0 if it does not. The price of the contract reflects the market’s odds of the event happening. For example, a price of $0.65 implies a 65% chance of the event occurring. Users can bet on the outcome by buying “Yes” if they believe the event will happen or “No” if they think it will not.
To participate in Coinbase’s prediction markets, users need a Coinbase account and must complete onboarding with Coinbase Financial Markets (CFM). This includes identity verification and providing basic income or net worth details. Once approved, users can fund their accounts and start trading using cash (USD and USDC) from their main Coinbase account.
The market operates with clear rules and settlement policies based on the result, determined by an independent, regulated exchange using a stated “source of truth.” Settlement occurs when the event result is confirmed, with correct contracts paying out $1 and incorrect contracts paying $0. Payouts are made after settlement, though delays may occur due to bank holidays, weekends, or confirmation processes.
