Coinbase Pro Returns with Deribit Integration and New Trading Features
Coinbase is preparing to relaunch its Coinbase Pro platform by the end of 2023, following the successful integration of Deribit, which it acquired last year. The integration has led to the creation of Coinbase Global Exchange, linking U.S. and international derivatives markets into a single liquidity pool for the first time. The company announced that it will soon offer Deribit-powered options, spot margin trading, and unified portfolios, with U.S. institutional clients gaining access to Deribit options and perpetual futures through Coinbase Prime.
Coinbase highlighted that guidance from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) in May allows it to connect U.S. clients with global crypto derivatives markets. This move provides a regulated way for U.S. institutional clients to access options and perpetual futures, which previously required offshore entities and multiple trading venues. Non-U.S. traders will get access to options in the coming weeks, while U.S. retail traders are expected to follow later this year.
The revived Coinbase Pro platform promises faster order routing, improved execution flows, and advanced tools for high-volume traders. The original Coinbase Pro was shut down in 2022 after its features were integrated into the main app. Additionally, Coinbase will introduce spot margin trading, allowing eligible traders to borrow against their collateral for larger spot trades, with leverage of up to 10 times on major assets and up to 5 times on other supported assets.
Coinbase also announced improvements such as a new matching engine, a shortened onboarding process, and updated fee tiers for Coinbase Advanced. The new fee tiers start at $10,000 in qualifying volume, including both spot and derivatives trading. Deribit, acquired for approximately $2.9 billion in August 2025, had over $30 billion in bitcoin options open interest as of September 30 and processed more than $1 trillion in trading volume last year.
