Coinbase Q2 Results Disappoint, But CEO Sees Brighter Future Ahead
Coinbase Global (COIN) shares fell nearly 7% in after-hours trading on Thursday, July 30, after the crypto exchange reported second-quarter results that missed Wall Street expectations. The company's revenue of $1.22 billion for the three months ended June 30 was down from $1.50 billion a year earlier and below analysts’ expectations of $1.29 billion.
Crypto trading weighed on Coinbase's core business, but the exchange highlighted rising subscription revenue and gains in global trading share. The company captured a record share of global crypto trading volume during the quarter, according to CEO Brian Armstrong.
Armstrong also emphasized expanding businesses beyond spot trading, including stablecoins, Base, and prediction markets, as future growth drivers. Despite softer trading conditions, Coinbase's subscription revenue accounted for a larger share of its business during the quarter.
