Coinbase Restructuring Executive Set to Depart Following Mass Layoffs
Coinbase has announced that Lawrence Brock, the executive behind its recent restructuring efforts, will step down from his position on August 17, 2026. This decision comes just eleven weeks after the company laid off approximately 700 employees in May 2026, reducing its workforce by 14% and cutting recurring expenses.
The layoffs were attributed to the need for Coinbase to refocus its organizational structure towards the artificial intelligence era. The cost of the cash severance plan is estimated to be between $50 million and $60 million, with the majority of these charges reflected in the second-quarter financial balance sheets.
Brock's departure marks the fourth executive-level resignation recorded at Coinbase since July 8, 2026. He will provide advisory services through November 30, 2026, under a three-month agreement valued at $182,500, based on an annualized salary rate of $730,000.
Coinbase plans to appoint Dominique Baillet as the new head of the talent department following Brock's departure. The company will release its official second-quarter earnings report on July 30, 2026, which will provide insight into the financial effectiveness of the restructuring plan.
