Coinbase Secures Abu Dhabi Approval for Tokenized Securities
Coinbase has secured regulatory approval from Abu Dhabi Global Market to offer tokenized securities, starting with Apple-linked products. The company announced this development after obtaining a Financial Services Permission from the FSRA to arrange investment deals and provide custody services for these digital tokens.
Under the new framework, traditional securities will remain regulated financial instruments, while being issued in ADGM and backed by underlying shares held in trust. Token holders can receive economic benefits, including dividends, but voting rights depend on the terms of each offering.
Coinbase has also pursued regulatory approval in the US for tokenized equities, submitting a request to the Securities and Exchange Commission in 2025. However, this process is separate from the latest approval in ADGM.
