Coinbase Seeks Approval for Stock Perpetual Futures in US

Share

Coinbase has filed to list single-stock perpetual futures in the US, marking the first time such contracts will be available on a regulated American exchange. The planned products would provide traders with continuous exposure to major American companies through futures contracts that do not carry a fixed expiration date.

The filing includes more than 50 stock perpetual futures, covering some of the largest companies in the American stock market, including Nvidia, Microsoft, and Tesla. Unlike standard futures, perpetual futures can remain open as long as traders meet margin requirements, allowing for around-the-clock exposure without expiration dates.

Coinbase has already operated a US perpetual futures market for cryptocurrency products and is expanding its derivatives business to include traditional assets. The proposed single-stock perpetuals would add another layer of flexibility for traders seeking to gain continuous exposure to individual stocks.
