Coinbase Seeks Approval for US Stock Perpetual Futures
Coinbase has filed with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) to list perpetual futures tied to individual equities, a move that could bring regulated access to a popular trading format into the U.S. stock market.
The proposed contracts would offer 24/5 exposure for individual stocks and are pending approval from the CFTC. If approved, Coinbase plans to put the contracts up for sale shortly.
Perpetual futures do not have an expiration date, but instead use a periodic funding arrangement to maintain the contract value consistent with that of the underlying asset. The funding rate would be computed hourly in Coinbase's proposed design.
