Coinbase Seeks CFTC Approval for Regulated Single-Stock Perpetual Futures

Coinbase Financial Markets has submitted a product filing to the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) for single-stock perpetual futures. The initial contracts cover Apple, Tesla, and Nvidia.

The submission was made through the CFTC's product-certification process under Part 40. This distinction matters because it indicates that Coinbase has filed the products, not simply switched them on.

Perpetual futures are a type of derivative that offers futures-style leverage without a fixed expiry date. They have become popular among traders for their ability to take leveraged long or short positions without owning the underlying assets.

The filing fits within Coinbase's broader strategy of building regulated derivatives infrastructure domestically. Its Designated Contract Market status gives it a venue through which products can be brought into the CFTC framework.
