Coinbase Seeks CFTC Approval for Single-Stock Perpetual Futures
Coinbase Financial Markets has submitted a product filing to the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) for single-stock perpetual futures. The initial contracts will cover Apple, Tesla, and Nvidia.
The submission was made through the CFTC's product-certification process under Part 40, which is a significant step in bringing these products to the regulated US market.
Perpetual futures allow traders to take leveraged long or short positions without owning the underlying shares. This structure has been popular on offshore exchanges for cryptocurrencies but applying it to individual stocks creates a continuously traded synthetic equity exposure.
