Coinbase Seeks CFTC Approval for US Single-Stock Perpetual Futures
Coinbase Derivatives has filed a request with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) to approve perpetual futures on individual U.S. stocks, including Apple (AAPL) and Tesla (TSLA) contracts.
The filing, which was signed by Jane Downey, Coinbase Derivatives' chief regulatory officer, explained that the exchange intended to list the contracts shortly following approval by the CFTC, pending any additional necessary regulatory approvals.
This is significant because perpetual futures have never traded on a regulated U.S. venue, pushing American traders offshore to platforms such as Hyperliquid (HYPE).
Coinbase Derivatives filed SEC notice registrations on September 1, making the CFTC request the second half of a two-regulator process.
