Coinbase Seeks Regulated Futures Ties to US Stocks
Coinbase Financial Markets has filed with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission to list single-stock perpetual futures, initially tied to Apple (no ticker mentioned), Tesla (no ticker mentioned), and Nvidia (no ticker mentioned).
The submission was made through the CFTC's product-certification process under Part 40. This distinction matters because it means Coinbase has filed the products, but they have not simply been switched on.
Perpetual futures became one of crypto's defining trading products because they offer futures-style leverage without a fixed expiry date. The structure was popular on offshore exchanges for Bitcoin and altcoins.
Applying the same model to individual stocks creates something much closer to a continuously traded synthetic equity exposure. For traders, this means the ability to take leveraged long or short positions without owning the underlying Apple, Tesla, or Nvidia shares.
