Coinbase Sinks to $1.36 Loss Per Share Amid Crypto Market Volatility
Coinbase Global, Inc.'s (COIN) second quarter earnings report revealed a significant downturn for the company. The exchange reported a loss of $1.36 per share, a stark contrast to the estimated profit of $0.23 per share. This represents a massive 497% drop in earnings per share.
The sharp decline can be attributed to a 25% quarter-over-quarter collapse in crypto spot trading volume and multi-year lows in volatility, which decimated transaction revenue. Despite this, subscription and services revenue remained steady at 48% of total revenue.
Coinbase's net loss for the quarter reached $359.5 million, a far cry from the $1.43 billion profit reported during the same period last year. To mitigate this impact, the company has slashed its full-year expense guidance by $100 million.
