Coinbase shares plummeted by 6.9% in after-hours trading following the crypto exchange's disappointing Q2 2026 earnings report, which fell short of analyst estimates on both top and bottom lines.

The company posted a loss of $1.36 per share, significantly worse than the consensus estimate, while total revenue of $1.2 billion failed to meet expectations, marking the third consecutive quarterly loss for Coinbase.

The revenue shortfall was primarily driven by a 21% year-over-year drop in transaction revenue to $599 million, as Bitcoin fell approximately 14% and Ethereum lost around 25% during the April-June period, impacting trading volumes and volatility across spot markets.

However, subscription and services revenue showed resilience, accounting for 48% of net revenue, up from 29% less than two years ago. Management also narrowed its full-year adjusted expense guidance to $4.2-$4.45 billion, while the company ended the quarter with $8.6 billion in cash and cash equivalents.
