Coinbase Stock Tumbles Amid Crypto Market Pullback and Regulatory Uncertainty
Coinbase stock fell sharply in premarket trading as Bitcoin and other digital assets declined. The stock slid 4.4% to $183.11, while Bitcoin dropped 2.9% to around $76,834.
The sell-off came on the day of a crucial vote in the U.S. Senate on the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, which aims to establish clearer token classifications and reduce regulatory uncertainty for crypto businesses. The bill requires 60 votes to advance, but its outcome remains uncertain.
Investors were also cautious ahead of the Federal Reserve's interest rate decision set for Wednesday, September 16, pushing them towards a risk-off posture in premarket hours. Analysts at Compass Point upgraded Coinbase to Neutral from Sell with a price target of $177, although this still reflects a cautious recovery thesis rather than an outright bullish call.
