Coinbase Taps AI to Boost Legal Team Efficiency

Share

Coinbase Global Inc.'s new general counsel Molly Abraham is overhauling the company's legal team to make better use of artificial intelligence. She wants to 'supercharge' innovation and automation for Coinbase lawyers, who navigate complex regulatory challenges in the cryptocurrency market.

Abraham, a former associate at Wachtell Lipton, Rosen & Katz, joined Coinbase in 2021 after serving as general counsel for Kitty Hawk Inc., a now-defunct flying car startup. She's hiring an engineer to work closely with the legal team, focusing on understanding their workflows and identifying the best AI tools.

The new engineer will report directly to Abraham and help develop pathways for new product offerings through legal innovation. Abraham envisions AI agents handling contract review, equity grants, and other functions, which could save time and reduce costs for the company.
