Coinbase Tokenized Stocks Launch on Base with Chainlink Price Feeds
Coinbase has partnered with Base to bring tokenized US stocks to its layer-2 blockchain, and Chainlink is providing price feeds for these assets. The initial tokens available are from Nvidia, Apple, Meta, and Alphabet, which can be used as collateral for borrowing in decentralized finance applications. These B20 tokens represent a direct claim on the underlying shares held by Alpaca under an Abu Dhabi Global Market-supervised structure.
The integration with Chainlink provides continuous pricing for these tokenized stocks, taking into account dividends and corporate actions through a multiplier supplied by Coinbase. This data allows DeFi protocols to integrate these assets into lending markets, decentralized exchanges, and structured products. The stocks are issued natively on Base and can be held in self-custody wallets.
Base expects more Coinbase tokenized stocks to launch in the coming weeks. The market for tokenized equities continues to grow, with a total value of $2.48 billion and a monthly transfer volume of $27.28 billion. The number of holders has surpassed 2.1 million, according to RWA.xyz data.
