Coinbase Unleashes UK Derivatives Trading with Up to 50x Leverage
Coinbase is launching derivatives trading in the UK, targeting professional investors. The platform offers over 170 contracts covering crypto, commodities, equities, and foreign exchange with up to 50x leverage.
The new offering includes three contract types: perpetuals, dated futures, and crypto options. Perpetuals span all 170 assets, have no expiry date, trade around the clock, and offer up to 50x leverage.
Dated futures settle on fixed dates and cap out at 20x leverage, while crypto options cover calls and puts across single and multi-leg strategies with payoff diagrams built into the interface.
Coinbase emphasizes that only professional clients will qualify for this service, citing the UK's Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) regulation. The rollout is progressive, and Coinbase has secured a MiFID licence from the FCA to offer instruments beyond crypto.
