Coinbase Unveils Digital Pokémon Card Pack Service
Coinbase has announced plans to launch a digital card-pack opening service linked to physical Pokémon cards, according to a teaser on its official channels. The service will allow users to buy and store Pokémon card packs through the Coinbase app.
The company's move into the collectible card business is seen as an extension of its 'Everything Exchange' strategy, which aims to provide a platform for trading various assets, including digital collectibles. This isn't the first time a service has been launched that lets users trade physical collectibles in digital form; Courtyard and GameStop have already offered similar services.
Courtyard stores physical Pokémon cards in specialized vaults and issues non-fungible tokens (NFTs) representing ownership of those cards. GameStop's Power Packs is a digital product linked to physical cards that was launched in the first half of this year.
