Coinbase Unveils High-Performance Matching Engine for Institutional Traders

Share

Coinbase has upgraded its derivatives infrastructure with a new high-performance matching engine on Deribit, capable of processing over 100,000 orders per second. This upgrade is aimed at improving execution speed and scalability for institutional traders as Coinbase's global derivatives business expands.

The new engine brings Deribit onto the same core execution infrastructure as Coinbase International Exchange. It introduces a built-in speed bump on selected instruments, briefly delaying aggressive orders to give liquidity providers more time to adjust their quotes during periods of rapid market movement.

Coinbase expects this mechanism to encourage market makers to quote tighter spreads and maintain larger resting orders over time, potentially improving liquidity for institutional traders.
