Coinbase vs Morningstar Investors Weigh Volatility Against Stability

Share

Investors in 2026 face a choice between two financial services stocks with very different profiles: Coinbase Global and Morningstar. Coinbase remains a leading platform for digital asset trading and institutional custody services, while Morningstar provides essential financial data and independent research across traditional and private asset classes.

Coinbase reported revenue of nearly $7.2 billion in FY 2025, up 9.4% from the prior year, with net income of roughly $1.3 billion. The company's debt-to-equity ratio was about 0.5x, and its current ratio stood at approximately 2.3x. However, Coinbase's revenue and profitability are highly volatile due to the unpredictable nature of digital asset markets.

Morningstar, on the other hand, recorded revenue of nearly $2.4 billion in FY 2025, representing 7.5% growth over the previous year, with net income close to $374.2 million. The company's debt-to-equity ratio was approximately 1.2x, and its current ratio was nearly 1.0x. Morningstar's business model relies on subscription-based data products and asset management services, offering more stable growth and profitability.

When comparing the two, Morningstar appears to be the more conservatively valued option. It has a forward P/E of 18.1x and a P/S ratio of 3.3x, compared to Coinbase's 55.1x and 7.1x, respectively. Morningstar's consistent growth, profitability, and lower valuation make it a more attractive option for investors seeking stability.
