Coinbase Warns of Relocation if US Crypto Regulation Fails
Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong has warned that his company may be forced to relocate some of its operations outside the US if comprehensive cryptocurrency regulation is not implemented in the country.
Speaking at an interview on Capitol Hill, Armstrong emphasized that Coinbase's priority is to continue growing in the US, but this is contingent upon a clear and lasting legal framework. He stated that companies, investors, and users can only make long-term plans in a predictable regulatory environment.
Armstrong pointed out that the cryptocurrency regulations being discussed in Congress are critically important for the industry, and that delays or failures in implementing regulations could lead to capital, startups, and users seeking countries with clearer regulations outside the US. This could negatively impact the US's competitiveness in the financial technology sector, he warned.
Coinbase is continuing to expand its operations by applying for licenses in different countries, as part of its international growth plans. Armstrong emphasized that companies need legal clarity that will remain valid even if administrations change, and that this is necessary for long-term investments in the sector.
