Coinbase Wires Up 3,000 Banks for Uncertain Stablecoin Ruling

Coinbase and Stablecore are installing crypto features in over 3,000 US banks, but most of this functionality is switched off on purpose. The rollout is timed to an OCC decision expected in November, which will determine whether banks can legally activate these features.

The deal between Coinbase and Stablecore assumes that the OCC framework arrives roughly on schedule and permissive. However, a delay or restrictive ruling could leave the installed features unusable at scale. The banks wiring in this autumn have effectively priced in an outcome that has not happened yet.

Coinbase is buying position rather than immediate revenue through this deal, according to the company's pattern of behavior. The same logic applies across the entire week, as Coinbase threads its infrastructure into over 4,000 local institutions, most of it waiting on the same regulatory green light.
