Coinbase's Base App Expands Into Multichain Trading With New Leadership
Coinbase's Base App is expanding its scope to become a multichain trading platform, allowing users to access assets and markets from different blockchain ecosystems through a single interface.
This shift in strategy reflects the reality of the cryptocurrency industry, where various blockchains host their own applications and assets. A consumer application aiming to be a major trading destination cannot remain confined to one blockchain.
Jordan Fish, also known as Cobie, has taken over leadership of the Base App from Jesse Pollak, who is now focusing on improving the underlying Base blockchain's infrastructure. The transition allows for different but complementary goals: Cobie can focus on building a consumer trading application, while Pollak concentrates on making the network more competitive in areas like liquidity and transaction execution.
Base has already seen prediction-market applications emerge on its network, and the company identifies predictions as part of its broader onchain financial ecosystem. The Base App's expansion into multichain trading includes adding perpetual futures, which would put it directly in competition with established crypto trading platforms.
