Coinbase's Base Hits $2 Billion TVL, Challenges Layer 2 Rivals
Base, Coinbase's Layer 2 solution, has reached a significant milestone by surpassing $2 billion in Total Value Locked (TVL). This achievement positions it as the second-largest optimistic rollup in the cryptocurrency market. The rapid growth of Base is attributed to its user-friendly interface and low transaction costs.
Data from DeFiLlama shows that Base's TVL has increased by 370% since the start of 2024, reaching $2.116 billion. This includes $3.63 billion in stablecoins and a 24-hour trading volume of $671.21 million. Base now trails only Arbitrum among optimistic rollups on Ethereum, leading in user activity with the highest number of active addresses and daily transactions.
The platform's growth is largely driven by high user activity, with recent data revealing 1.1 million interacting users on Base in a single day. This has led to an increase in new wallet addresses, with 8,335 registered during the same period. Analysts predict further growth for Base, suggesting its TVL could exceed $3 billion by year-end.
Base's success can be attributed to key protocols such as Aerodrome and Uniswap, which have contributed significantly to its growth. The surge in Base's TVL reflects broader trends in the Layer 2 market, highlighting growing demand for scalable blockchain solutions. As competition intensifies, Base's performance will be closely watched by industry observers.
