Coinbase's Steady Price Hides a Complex Financial Picture
Coinbase, widely regarded as the face of crypto, has been holding steady at $200.40 for the past six months.
The company's stock has also fallen short of the S&P 500's 18% gain during that period.
Two key attributes make Coinbase stand out: its elite gross margin and excellent free cash flow margin.
Coinbase's gross profit margin is one of the highest in the consumer internet sector, averaging an impressive 85.7% over the last two years.
This means the company only paid $14.28 for every $100 in revenue, allowing it to fund large investments in product and marketing during periods of rapid growth.
Coinbase's free cash flow margin was also among the best in the sector, averaging 33.7% over the last two years.
However, one reason to be cautious is that Coinbase's long-term revenue growth has been sluggish at just 5% compounded annual growth rate over the last five years.
